*7900/8000 RPM is where the most horsepower and torque is at on this engine.
It's probably safe to say that not many snowmobile owners are ever completely satisfied with the performance they are getting out of their machine. In an effort to improve performance it is common practice to simply buy parts, bolt them on, and head to the hill. If you are like most people, you have probably been disappointed with the outcome a time or two.
While upgrading components is necessary to make serious improvements in performance, what is equally important is ensuring that all the components work together as a whole to give you the maximum benefit. While it is possible to tune by feel and the process of trial and error, it could, and often does, take several trips and changes to get it right.
Our experience coupled with the latest tools make trial and error a thing of the past. To give you an idea of how we are able to maximize the performance of your machine we've included a brief explanation of what our equipment is and how it works.
The crank dyno can accurately test as little as 30hp and up to 300hp and 200ft lbs of torque. Our dyno is calibrated within 1 hp and 1ft lb of torque....very accurate.
One of the reasons this dyno is so accurate is that it measures Hp and Torque directly off the engines crankshaft. The way the dyno works is by replacing the primary and secondary clutches with a waterbrake cell which basically measures the amount of force it takes to move a known and consistent medium (water) and converts that data to the common units of measurement we know as Horsepower and Torque. The useful aspect of this dyno is you can optimize your engines performance rather quickly because you can make changes (jetting, pipes etc.) and see the real world results almost immediately.
Knowing at what RPM you are making peak horsepower is particularly critical in snowmobiles because of the complexity of the drivetrain and the importance of making sure the engine is operating in it's optimum rpm range. There are so many variables, and so many possible combinations of parts, a dyno pull is the only way to know exactly what you have and how to tune the drivetrain for it. This is where the track dyno helps complete the package.
The track dyno measures the amount of hp you are putting to the ground at a given track speed. This information, especially when compared to your crank dyno results can help make sure your clutches and gearing are matched perfectly to your engine's performance right at the shop. Ensuring your machine performs to it's full potential the moment your skis hit the snow.
